Sacramento Police To Crack Down On Sideshow Spectators

Sacramento police are bracing themselves for an increase in sideshows as the summer approaches.

In order to prevent them, they have announced they will not only be cracking down on drivers involved but on people watching as well, reports FOX40.

Police are aiming to shut down the sideshows quicker this year and ensure the people involved face serious consequences.

“And as the weather begins to warm up we tend to see a little bit more of these reports of sideshows just because people are out and about and the weather is nice,” Officer Karl Chan, from the Sacramento Police Department told FOX40.

Just this year, 93 people have been cited and 49 have been arrested for misdemeanors related to sideshows in the city.

In addition, 47 cars have been impounded, seven vehicles were seized, and there have been two felony gun arrests from sideshows in 2021, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

“If anybody does see a gathering that’s going to become some type of sideshow or some type of activity in a parking lot, don’t hesitate to notify us,” said Chan.

Police also said suspect vehicles will be tracked from the air throughout Nothern California.

Officers usually call in other agencies like the Sacramento Sheriff's Office and California Highway Patrol to track cars leaving sideshows.
