After the historic heatwave that swept across the Pacific Northwest over the past three days, cooler weather is on the way for the Seattle area.

On Monday, June 28, Seattle reached triple-digit temperatures for the third day in a row. It hit 108 degrees making it the city's hottest day in recorded history.

Although the National Weather Service's (NWS) Exessive Heat Warning will remain in effect until Tuesday evening (June 28), forecasters said Tuesday will be about 20 degrees cooler across the Puget Sound, reports MyNorthWest.com.

According to the NWS, cooler marine air is moving up north from the coast. By Monday, June 28, Westport dropped from 83 to 64 by the late morning. And Shelton went from 106 degrees to 75 degrees by 9:30 P.M.

In the Seattle area, temperatures were between 10 and 25 degrees cooler on Tuesday morning than they were the previous day at the same time.

“It is imperative that heat-related precautions are not just automatically neglected,” the NWS wrote in its Forecast Discussion. “Heat-related impacts are likely to carry over given that there won’t be an extended period of cooler temperatures to fully recover from the extreme heat of the past few days.”

According to the NWS, Wednesday, June 30, will continue to cool down.
