Some Michigan residents in Dickinson County have complained about pickleball matches in the neighborhood being too noisy.
According to Iron Mountain Daily News, Iron Mountain City Council will not restrict hours for pickleball at the Stanton Street Courts even though they have received complaints from a few neighbors.
City Manager Jordan Stanchina pitched the idea of limiting play hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., but nearly 20 people who play the sport attended the council meeting to object to the hour restriction.
"We'll try to mitigate (the noise) somehow," Mayor Dale Alessandrini said.
A neighbor affected by the pickleball playing, Roxanne Hudson, told the council that she and her husband "just want to move" because after hours and hours of the paddles and balls "drive you nuts."
"Every recreational activity has noise," council member Bill Revord added during the council meeting. He also noted that it would be "a slippery slope" for the council to single out pickleball for restrictions.
Scott McLure, who represents a group of the players, said they would do what they can to limit the noise, including the use of quieter paddles.
Out of 10 homes in the neighborhood, two have complained about the noise, Alessandrini stated.
