Elon Musk's plans for Texas include a new city and possibly tunnels under San Antonio and Austin.
The mega billionaire's Boring Company is in talks with the cities about developing a loop system, which would be like subway tunnels meet Tesla cars, the San Antonio Express News first reported.
Instead of traditional subway cars, commuters would ride in self-driving Teslas underground as a way to reduce traffic and pollution above ground.
In San Antonio, local leaders discussed the possibility of building 10-mile long tunnels that would connect the San Antonio International Airport to downtown, among other possible routes. So far the conversations have been going on for at least two months.
Less is known about the company's plans in Austin, but "several signs point to Austin as the likely location for The Boring Company’s first Texas demo project," according to the newspaper.
San Antonio and Austin aren't the first cities to consider the tunnels. Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Las Vegas have already started moving forward on their possible tunnels, which will cost millions of dollars to build just a few miles.
