One Washington city is experiencing so much population growth, it's one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States, according to KING 5.
The U.S. Census Bureau revealed that the population in Kent, Washington grew by more than 11% over the last decade. These results come from a survey bureau staff conducted in 2020, reporters noted.
Kent, which is part of the greater Seattle metropolitan area, is estimated to have over 136,000 residents in 2020, according to census data. The 2010 census showed the city had 92,411 residents.
"All 10 of the fastest-growing cities grew by at least 44 percent," the bureau wrote on Twitter. "The fastest-growing one, Buckeye, Arizona, a western suburb of Phoenix, was up nearly 80 percent this decade to reach over 91,000 in population."
Out of the 10 cities mentioned on the list, four of them were cities or suburbs in Texas. Some other Western cities appeared on the list: Irvine, California, Goodyear, Arizona, Meridian Idaho, and South Jordan, Utah. All of these areas are near major metropolitan areas, such as Phoenix, Los Angeles and Houston.
Kent is also the sixth-largest city in the Evergreen State, according to city officials.
