If you've ever played the lottery, you usually hope to win some extra money. Most lottery wins involve a cash prize or maybe even large lifetime annuity if you're lucky. While that is the case for one lucky winner in North Carolina, she also claimed an additional prize: a new sports car.
Linda Botello, of Wilmington, recently tried her hand at a new scratch-off lottery game. She was on her way home from work when she decided to stop by the Scotchman on Old Stage Road in Riegelwood to pick up some ice cream and purchased a $5 Corvette & Cash ticket.
The Corvette & Cash game launched in July, giving four lucky winners the chance to score a prize of $100,000 and a new Corvette Stingray, a sports car with a value up to $109,600. According to lottery officials, winners can choose to receive a 2021 or current available model and pick their favorite options. Botello is the second person to win the top prize, leaving two prizes still in play.
Botello claimed her prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Thursday (August 19), taking home a total of $70,751 after taxes. She also began the process of receiving her new Corvette.
Lottery officials say a fifth Corvette & Cash prize will offered as part of a "second-chance" drawing in the future where all Corvette & Cash tickets can be entered to win. The date of the fifth drawing is to be determined.
