Thieves were caught on camera in St. Paul stealing bonsai trees from the front yard of a home on Saturday, August 21.
According to WCCO, the couple who had their trees stolen say their display was outside their home in the West 7th Street neighborhood. The thieves took off with several small trees totaling thousands of dollars in loss for the couple.
This wasn't the first time they have had a tree stolen from that front yard display. Two weeks before this incident, one of their larger trees was taken. As a precaution, the couple decided to bolt down their existing trees, but that didn't stop the thieves.
The video shows three robbers pull up in a car and go straight for the trees on display. The three were able to cut the straps that secured the trees down and steal at least half a dozen plants.
The couple is hoping that anyone with information about the three people in the video comes forward.
According to AllThingsBonsai.com, here is their definition of what a bonsai tree is:
"A bonsai tree is a living tree or shrub which has been grown in a way which gives the impression of being a full-sized, mature tree. An artistic representation of a full-sized tree in nature. Bonsai trees are generally grown in shallow ceramic pots."
