Hurricane Ida made landfall Sunday afternoon (August 29) as a Category 4 strength storm, drenching Louisiana on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
Ida made landfall near Port Fourchon and Grand Isle around noon as one of the most powerful storms to ever hit the U.S. with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph, per FOX 8 Live.
Residents have been advised to shelter in place, and all emergency services have been suspended until the hurricane has passed, WWL reports.
As residents around New Orleans and the Louisiana coast wait out the storm, many are without power.
