A date fit for a princess.
On Wednesday (September 1), Camila Cabello walked the red carpet for the Miami premiere of her debut acting role Cinderella with her IRL Prince Charming by her side. We're talking, of course, about Cabello's longtime boyfriend Shawn Mendes.
Cabello and Mendes looked so much like royalty at the premiere, it's no wonder fans have expressed disappointment that Mendes wasn't also cast in the film. The 'Don't Go Yet' singer recently told Entertainment Tonight, however, that it would've been "too weird" for Mendes to have taken on the Prince Charming role in the actual film.
"He’s the best and I think we are really supportive of each other and always want to see each other," Cabello added, revealing that even though Mendes wasn't on camera he did come out to support her on set. “He was there for the whole beginning of it, and was so supportive. I’m lucky I have some awesome people in my life."
Cabello has previously spoken about why she believes this updated take on the classic fairytale is necessary. Cabello's Cinderella is more focused on chasing her dreams of being a dressmaker than chasing after Prince Charming. “Cinderella is a musically-driven bold new take on the traditional story you grew up with,” the official synopsis states “Our heroine is an ambitious young woman whose dreams are bigger than the world will allow, but with the help of her Fab G, she is able to persevere and make her dreams come true.”
Following the film's Los Angeles premiere, the 'Havana' singer praised the film's writer and director, Kay Cannon, for bringing the project to life. "Wait till you see what [Cannon] did when you see this movie: she’s a badass woman who wrote and directed a movie about a badass woman! Spoiler alert! This is not a princess story like you’ve seen before. She’s a dreamer, honey."
Cinderella premieres Sept. 3 on Amazon Prime Video.
