Shawn Mendes released “Summer of Love” weeks ago, and now he’s following the upbeat track with an acoustic version.
Mendes teamed up with Tainy on the bouncy song, which includes a nod to his real-life girlfriend and fellow pop star Camila Cabello: “Meditation and tequila/ Calling you my señorita/ Didn't know how much I need ya/ Hate it when I have to leave ya.” Last month, the “In My Blood” singer appeared on the Elvis Duran Show and talked about his latest song, including why he didn’t release it earlier. He said at the time that he simply: “we didn’t have it (written) yet.”
“I hope this song makes people feel free, free from the weight of life, even if just for a moment," Mendes said in a previous statement, when the song released. “The inspiration was getting a few months off to have a real summer with the people I love. My favorite part about creating it was getting the opportunity to work in the studio with Tainy. It was a special experience connecting with him since he’s such an incredible artist and amazing producer.”
Mendes released the acoustic version of the song on Thursday (September 2). Listen here:
