After 11 years, Blue Bottle Coffee has shut down its original Oakland location, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
Blue Bottle CEO Karl Strovink released the following statement to SFGate: “In cooperation with our landlord we have closed our Webster cafe. We appreciate our landlord allowing us to operate month to month until a successor tenant for the entire building was identified."
In 2019, the coffee chain relocated roasting operations from Jack London Square to Sacramento in preparation for rent tripling when the lease was up, reports SFGate.
The corporate offices were headquartered at the Webster Street building before moving to Old Oakland.
The Webster Blue Bottle had its last day of operation on Sunday, November 7.
"We are extremely grateful to our cafe regulars and the Jack London Square community who supported us at this location for so many years," Strovink's continued in his statement. "We encourage our former Webster guests to visit us at our Old Oakland cafe, located just a half a mile away."
Blue Bottle started at an Oakland farmers market in 2022. By 2017, Nestle acquired ownership of the company and it now has nearly 100 cafes across the U.S., Japan, and Korea.
