The holidays are expected to have a soggy end this year in the Bay Area.
According to SFGATE, rain is in the forecast for the next eight days straight through Christmas days and potentially until the end of the year.
The National Weather Service is predicting 2 to 3 inches of rain in San Francisco, Oakland, and other urban areas and up to 5 inches of rain in the coastal mountain ranges of the North Bay between Monday, December 20, and December 26.
The Santa Cruz Mountains and the Santa Lucia Range in Big Sur could also record over 6 inches of rain.
"We already had a wet December and we’re looking to continue this pattern, probably close to the end of month," Brooke Bingaman, a forecaster with the weather service, told SFGATE.
The rain is much needed after two, consecutive dry winters in California.
Brian Garcia with the weather service said that rainfall totals at most locations in the Bay Area since October 1 are at least 200% over normal for this time of year.
Light rain and drizzle are forecast for Monday night with the first significant rain coming in on Tuesday, December 21.
Beyond the weekend models suggest a possibility of rain through the end of the year, however, it is difficult to predict the weather beyond seven days.
