An abandoned San Francisco townhouse is making headlines after it sold for nearly $2 million despite its candid listing.
The townhouse on 320 Day Street was listed as "... the worst house on the best block," with its mismatched floors, boarded-up windows, and rickety staircase.
Located in the Noe Valley neighborhood, the property initially went for $995,000 and was described as a "contractors special," according to the New York Post.
The home comes with one bathroom and "zero-bedrooms" went for auction in a conservatorship sale last month. On January 7, it sold for $600,000 over the starting bid.
Typically, homes in the upscale neighborhood sell for an average of $2.6 million. Some properties over 3,000 square feet routinely go for over $4 million.
The New York Post also reported that the home is 120 years old and will need major renovations.
“Surrounded by many multimillion-dollar homes; this is the best opportunity on the block and your chance to make it shine as bright as the neighbors," reads the listing.
“We thought the property would sell at $1.6 million — we had data for that,” Todd Wiley and Kim Wiley with Compass told Insider. “But then the human spirit of competition took over.”
