Terique Owens, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Owens, signed with his father's original team, the San Francisco 49ers, as an undrafted free agent following the conclusion of the 2024 NFL Draft this past weekend.
“I’m proud of him,” Terrell Owens told CBS Sports' Josina Anderson on Sunday (April 28). “All we ever asked for is an opportunity. He’s wanted to make his own name and carve his own path to get to where he is. We would’ve loved to have gotten drafted, but he’s got his foot in the door. Now he has to continue to do all the right things and show people he can play.”
Terique previously participated in the 49ers' local Pro Day earlier this month, which was also attended by his father, who ranks second in franchise history behind only Jerry Rice in career receptions (592), receiving yards (8,572) and receiving touchdowns (81), having spent the first eight NFL seasons in San Francisco.
The younger Owens concluded his collegiate career at Missouri State following previous stints at Contra Costa College and Florida Atlantic, recording 28 receptions for 528 yards and four touchdowns in 2023.
Terrell Owens, who participated in the Fan Controlled Football league in 2022, ranks third all-time among NFL receivers in career receptions (15,934) and touchdowns (153), as well as eighth in career receptions (1,078).
