Several people were injured after a suspected skydiving plane crashed in Middle Tennessee on Sunday (June 8), the Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed on its X account.
The plane, which was reported to have crashed on Old Shelbyville Road in Tullahoma, located about 70 miles away from Metro Nashville, had an estimated 16 to 20 people on board at the time, with several being airlifted to nearby hospitals.
"Happening Now: Coffee County - THP troopers are assisting @TullahomaPD at the scene of a plane crash on Old Shelbyville Road. Initial reports suggest 16–20 people were on board. Some have been airlifted to nearby hospitals. This is an active scene. Locals officials will update," the Tennessee Highway Patrol wrote.
No deaths have been reported in the crash, however, some minor injuries were reported, City of Tullahoma spokesperson Lyle Russell confirmed in a statement to CNN.
“At approximately 12:15p on Sunday, June 8th, a plane crash occurred at Tullahoma Regional Airport,” Russell said. “The scene is being secured by local authorities while FAA officials are en route to continue the investigation.”
Initial information shared by law enforcement authorities suggested that the plane was a skydiving plane, according to CNN.
