Rev. Jimmy Swaggart, America's longest-running televangelist, is in critical condition after suffering cardiac arrest, according to his family.
Swaggart's Facebook account shared multiple posts updating his condition, claiming it would take "a miracle" to extend his life.
"As we mentioned, we will continue to keep you updated on how Brother Swaggart is doing," the latest update shared on Monday (June 16) states. "At this time, there has been no change in his condition. We ask that you continue to lift him up in prayer and believe God for a miracle—but above all, we trust in the Lord’s perfect will.
"We kindly ask that you respect the privacy of the Swaggart family during this time and refrain from calling to inquire. For the latest information, please continue to follow our official Ministry social media pages listed below.
"Thank you, once again, for standing with us in faith and prayer."
Swaggart reportedly went into cardiac arrest at around 8:00 a.m. local time in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Sunday (June 15), according to his son, Rev. Donnie Swaggart, who said he and his brother took turns giving their father chest compressions before EMTs arrived, but "he never regained consciousness" during his Sunday night service via CBS News.
"Emergency personnel responded swiftly and were able to revive his heartbeat before transporting him to the hospital. He remains in the ICU, where he is under close medical care," a spokesperson for Jimmy Swaggart Ministries confirmed.
Swaggart, the founder of Family Worship Center and Jimmy Swaggart Ministries, which owns and operates the SonLife Broadcasting Network, is one of the country's most well-known televangelists, having initially began preaching on the radio in the early 1960s before shifting to television in 1975.
