Tropicale Foods recalled a wide array of "Helados Mexico and La Michoacana products" on Friday (July 25) due to the undeclared presence of a common allergen.
According to the United States Food & Drug Administration, the recalled products, distributed to retail stores nationwide (including those in Illinois), contains "undeclared milk" which poses the risk of a "serious or life-threatening allergic reaction" to individuals allergic to the ingredient not listed on the product labels.
Consumers allergic to milk should avoid Helados Mexico and La Michoacana products with the Best Buy dates listed on the official FDA recall page. 14 of the company's ice cream products are included in the recall.
So far, there has been one complaint of an allergic reaction reported as a result of consuming a mislabeled Helados Mexico and La Michoacana product. Officials are urging consumers (who have already purchased one of the products listed in the recall) to throw it out immediately if they are allergic to milk.
Concerned individuals with questions regarding the recalled products can contact Tropicale Foods at "909-563-3090 between 8 am and 5 pm pacific, Monday to Friday."
