Despite growing up in the digital age, Wednesday star Jenna Ortega isn't a huge fan of social media.

The actress, 22, recently commented on how difficult it is to find community and purpose on social platforms, and believes that people are fond of the series because it presents themes of "where we find our sense of community now."

On Wednesday (July 30), she told the BBC that seeking community online "can be very isolating" and that the sense of connection today is nothing like it was back in the 1970s.

"I wasn't around in the '70s, but I hear stories of people knocking on their neighbors' doors, and the bikes going all throughout the city, and just expecting to meet someone at a certain time on a certain location."

The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice standout thinks social media exposes young minds to an abundance of opinions that make it "harder to find a sense of self."

"Much more than you would typically be, or that humans are kind of meant to be exposed to. So I think it's harder to find a sense of self. Young people are struggling to find, 'What makes my voice stand out? What is it about me in this world and this society today that gives me a sense of purpose or control or authority?"

See Ortega shine as Wednesday Addams in season two of Wednesday, out on Netflix September 3!
