The often outspoken Azealia Banks held nothing back during her interview with The Breakfast Club on Friday, May 11th. In the hour-long chat, Banks openly discussed the false narratives and misconceptions about her, issues with RZA and why their film Love Beats Rhymes flopped, being blackballed in the industry, and explained her previous comments about Cardi B, where she called the "Bodak Yellow" an "illiterate untalented rat” on Instagram. When asked to expound on her comment by DJ Envy, Banks said:
“When I look at black women’s culture as a whole thing and you think about the media and the power that the media has. The media had the power to get rid of me and the media has the power to make anyone the forefront. Two years ago, the conversation surrounding black women’s culture was really reaching an all-time high and we were really like discussing our power amongst ourselves, Beyoncé came out with Lemonade. There was just this really, intelligent conversation going on nationally and then everything just kind of changed and then it was like Cardi B […] I’m just talking about this caricature of a black woman that black women themselves would never be able to get away with.”

After the interview was released, Cardi took to Twitter to address her haters and seemed to respond directly to Banks' comments during the interview. "Why is it that male rappers can speak how they want act how they want but people constantly bash me for it," she asked.
Why do I feel like I have to apologize for being who I am? Talking how I talk and being what ya call “Ghetto “ wtff. LEAVE ME ALONE!"
She continued: "Every week it seems like I’m in somebody’s mouth. Why was nobody talking about me when I was on Love and Hip Hop? All of a sudden I’m the reason why the world is such a terrible place. I be minding my business, I wake up and boom something about Cardi! I don’t get it."

Banks responded directly to Cardi's tweets with some vicious comments. "You were gyrating on stage at Coachella with a baby in your stomach," the "Anna Wintour" rapper said. "Telling Rolling Stone that you don’t use condoms as if HIV is not a huge health issue for many of your black female fans... it’s sloppy... do better sis," she concluded.
