Red Hot Chili Peppers' Recording Sessions Halted By California Fires

In October, Red Hot Chili Peppers got us excited when bassist Flea posted a photo on Instagram of his bruised, bandaged fingers, indicating that the band was hard at work on their 12th studio album.

Although we're eager to hear the followup to the band's 2016 effort, The Getaway, we may have to wait a little longer than we originally anticipated.

During a recent interview, drummer Chad Smith divulged that the wildfires that devastated Southern California last year affected their recording sessions.

“We started to work on [the new album], which, for us, is just getting in a room and making some noise and putting some notes together,” said Smith. “And then the fires came, and the house we were working in, there was no damage, it didn’t burn down, but we couldn’t get back in there. So that halted our [progress].”

Though we're still hoping to hear new music from the Los Angeles rockers in 2019, the band had some other exciting news to share. On March 15th, they will be playing a venue few artists can say they've performed: the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. Tickets go on sale Friday (January 18) at 8am local time.
