Elton John took the stage at the 92nd Academy Awards on Sunday (February 9) for the most colorful performance of the night!

The iconic artist's song “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again,” from his biopic, Rocketman, (music by Elton John; lyrics by Bernie Taupin) was nominated tonight for Best Original Song.

For his performance, John sported a purple suit jacket and pink sunglasses while playing the Oscar-nominated song on a cherry red piano (and yes, there was a disco ball!).

While Taron Egerton (who plays the singer in the biopic) has joined the 72-year-old singer onstage to perform multiple times, he was sadly absent from the Oscars. Rocketman producer — and Elton John's husband — David Furnish revealed “Taron finished his Rocketman journey at the BAFTAs.”

John did perform, though, on stage alongside a larger-than-life pair of his iconic star sunglasses and they totally stole the show! He was also joined by a band including a horns section and a a handful of incredible backup singers.

Just moments after performing the song, John and Taupin won the Oscar for Best Original Song! “Thank you to Bernie who's been the constant thing in my life when I was screwed up, when I've been normal. David I love you so much... Taron Egerton, what a performance," John said in his thank you speech.

John and Taupin previously won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song for the same song. John won at the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards in1995 for the iconic Lion King song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”

The award-winning artist will be hosting his annual AIDS fundraiser following the Oscars tonight. “As soon as the category has been presented, we have a police escort to zoom from the Dolby Theater to get here as quickly as possible,” Furnish told Variety. “Hopefully we get here before the actual Oscar broadcast ends. This is where we need to be.”

“(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” was nominated alongside “I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away” (from Toy Story 4), “I’m Standing With You” (from Breakthrough), “Into the Unknown” (from Frozen II), and “Stand Up” (from Harriet) for the Best Original Song.
