Katy Perry and Taylor Swift may have rekindled their friendship, but they’re not as close as you’d think.
As Swifties and Katy Kats know, the pop stars officially made amends in 2018 after years of their so-called “feud.” The “Dark Horse” musician made the first move by extending a literal olive branch to Swift, who happily accepted the peace treaty. What’s more, Perry even wrote the “Man” songstress a hand-written note at the time in which she expressed she was “deeply sorry” about their fallout and wanted to “clear the air.”
However, if you were hoping the superstars had reached bestie status by now, prepare yourself for heartbreak. “We don’t have a very close relationship because we are very busy, but we text a lot,” the 35-year-old admitted in a recent interview with Stellar Magazine, in which the “Harleys in Hawaii” singer gave fans a much-needed update on the status of her relationship with her former frenemy.
Even so, the pair are still on really good terms. Perry even complimented the “Lover” musician’s open-heartedness in her new Netflix documentary, Miss Americana. “I was impressed by her documentary because I saw some self-awareness starting to happen and I saw a lot of vulnerability,” she added.
On the subject of vulnerable moments, Perry also opened up about the iconic reconciliatory moment when the pair hugged it out — dressed as a burger and fries — in Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” music video last summer.
“I was really excited for her to be able to show that to the world: that things aren’t perfect, they don’t have to be and it’s more beautiful when they aren’t,” she reflected. “Even though it was difficult, it was important to make that appearance in the music video because people want people to look up to. We wanted it to be an example of unity. Forgiveness is important. It’s so powerful. If you can forgive your enemy, that’s amazing. As difficult as it is!”
