Chino Moreno May Have Accidentally Revealed New Deftones Album Title

The forthcoming new Deftones studio album will be called Ohms, according to a new rumor gaining traction in the band's fanbase.

Frontman Chino Moreno reportedly let slip the detail in a recent interview. According to a Reddit thread, the moment was later clipped out of the conversation. Various fan sites were then reportedly asked to remove mentions of it.

An ohm is a unit of measurement for electrical resistance.

Deftones have reportedly dropped other hints that Ohms is indeed the new album title.

The band has recently posted lyric visualizers for previously-released songs "One Weak," "Hexagram" and "Minerva." Some fans have pointed out that the first letters of each track spell out O-H-M — meaning we're all on high alert for another visualizer for an 'S' song — perhaps for "Sextape," "Swerve City" or "Street Carp."

The next hint — if that is indeed what these are — should arrive in the next couple of days.

A single is rumored to follow, perhaps as early as Friday.

Deftones' last album was 2016's Gore.

Moreno and company began working on their new effort as long ago as 2018, but pledged to take their time to complete it. The band recorded most of the instrumental tracks last summer and Moreno said last fall that the band wanted to wait to finalize lyrics and vocals.

The new album album was completed this past spring and Moreno said fans could expect it to be released in late-September.

Moreno added in a conversation with H2O's Toby Morse in a podcast released in July (though seemingly recorded months earlier) that the band was intent on delivering a more guitar-driven record this time around, due to guitarist Stephen Carpenter's reduced involvement on Gore.
