Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Wednesday (October 7) sports stadiums are allowed to host fans at full capacity, including the Hard Rock Stadium. Despite this clearance, the Miami Dolphins opted to keep limiting capacity to 13,000 fans during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Right now with [COVID-19] positivity rates where they are, we feel that we can keep people safe in a socially distanced environment, which is our 13,000 capacity manifest,” Dolphins CEO Tom Garfinkel said to the Sun Sentinel on Wednesday. Hard Rock Stadium can hold at least 65,000 fans at full capacity.

DeSantis recently moved the Sunshine State into Phase 3 of reopening, which allowed many businesses to reopen at full capacity but still allow them to maintain safety protocols if they wish. DeSantis also said he expects Super Bowl LV to be held in front of fans, which is slated for February 2021 in Tampa.

"We're going to be able to host the Super Bowl in February. We expect to do a full Super Bowl," DeSantis said. "We’re going to show that we’re going to be able to do that."

According to the Sun Sentinel, the Dolphins had 11,075 come out and watch their home opener against the Buffalo Bills on September 20. Their home game against the Seattle Seahawks saw 12,369 fans on Sunday (October 4).
