If court documents weren't enough to convince you that Britney Spears does not feel comfortable having her father, Jamie Spears, at the helm of her conservatorship, a source close to PEOPLE is sharing more insight on the "sad situation."
After the court hearing on Tuesday (November 10), where an attorney Samuel D. Ingham III for the pop titan, 38, explicitly said that she’s afraid of her father, 68, an insider has revealed that the two haven’t spoken in over a year. "She feels like he has no respect for her wishes. It's a sad situation," the source explained of the family dynaic. "Jamie has always had a tendency to shut down Britney's requests without any discussion."
In the court hearing in Los Angeles, Ingham made it clear that the pop titan is not interested in a personal or professional relationship with Jamie. "My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father. She also stated that she will not perform as long as her father is in charge of her career," the attorney claimed. "We are really at a crossroads."
Tuesday's hearing saw both Britney and Jamie’s teams come together to determine whether Jamie will remain co-conservator of her estate. However, Judge Brenda Penny decided not to suspend Jamie and told the court that the matter could be further discussed "down the road." Additionally, Britney's mother, Lynne, 65, and her attorney, Gladstone Jones, revealed that Jamie compared his daughter to "a racehorse who has to be handled like one" during discussions about Britney's health in the summer of 2019.
"It has broken Lynne's heart to watch that this has come to this point," Jones, said. "Lynne believes the time is now to start fresh given the circumstance of Britney’s request."
