Fans have spotted two of Hollywood's biggest names in Boston this week as they film a new Netflix movie.

Academy Award winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence began filming the big-budget comedy 'Don't Look Up' in Boston on Tuesday (December 1.) Local residents shared videos of the stars in downtown Boston on social media over the past day.

Lawrence was also spotted in Boston celebrating President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris' victory in the 2020 presidential election last month prior to filming 'Don't Look Up.'

The Adam McKay directed Netflix film set up Tuesday morning and both Academy Award winners appeared in front of the camera for the first time, the Boston Globe reports.

'Don't Look Up' centers around a couple of scientists attempting to save the world six months ahead of an astroid strike and also features several other major names including Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Rob Morgan, Cate Blanchett, Himesh Patel, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Matthew Perry and Tomer Sisley.

The Netflix film was initially scheduled to begin filming last spring and stream in December 2020, but was delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and is now scheduled for release in 2021. Cast and crew have been following strict coronavirus safety protocols during filming, which has included going into quarantine and undergoing testing before reporting to the set, the Globe reports.

The Sun Chronicle reports about 300 people were involved during shooting on Monday (November 30,) which included crew and extras.

Massachusetts has once again become a destination for movie and television filming recently, after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic initially ceased production. In October, Emmy winner and "Schitt's Creek" star Annie Murphy was reportedly spotted in Massachusetts this week while filming a her AMC series, 'Kevin Can F*** Himself,' a dark comedy set in Worchester but filmed elsewhere in the state of Massachusetts

A sci-fi film titled 'Mother/Android' starring Chloe Grace Moretz and Algee Smith was also recently filmed in the Boston area recently, according to the Globe.
