Kelly Clarkson Accuses Estranged Husband Of Defrauding Her Out Of Millions

Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock’s divorce just got a whole lot messier.
In documents obtained by OK! Magazine, the “Since U Been Gone” singer filed a complaint with the California Labor Commissioner’s Office back in October claiming her estranged husband — who was also her personal manager — defrauded her out of millions of dollars in “unconscionable fees.”
As the magazine reports, Clarkson indicates an oral agreement she made with Blackstock’s Starstruck Management Group was a “fraudulent and subterfuge device” for Brandon and his father, Narvel Blackstock, to perform “illegal services” as unlicensed agents in the state of California.
Clarkson claims the Blackstocks were in violation of the California Labor Code, citing the Talent Agencies Act, a regulation that requires individuals acting as agents in the state to be licensed. She claims SMG failed to pay the $50,000 surety bond required to operate as an agent and failed to obtain her written approval to act as an agent and work in a manner that would serve her best interests.
Additionally, Clarkson alleges SMG made “false representations” and concealed “material information from [Clarkson] concerning certain matters relating to [Starstruck’s] … violation of the Labor Code.”
Based on SMG’s alleged “wrongful acts and conduct,” Clarkson and her attorney want “all agreements between the parties … declared void and unenforceable” in addition to “all monies” she paid during the 13 years she’s been with the company to be paid back in full.
The 38-year-old’s filing came a month after Narvel issued a lawsuit against her for $1.4 million dollars in unpaid wages and an additional $4 million from monies earned from The Voice and The Kelly Clarkson Show.
“Over the course of approximately thirteen years, Starstruck developed Clarkson into a mega superstar,” Starstruck lawyers stated, per OK!. “By way of example only, Starstruck was instrumental in helping Clarkson achieve success in terms of numerous hit albums, multiple Grammy wins and nominations, her role on popular television shows like The Voice and her own talk show.” (Clarkson only won a single Grammy, in 2013, since being with SMG. She won two Grammys the year before, in 2006.)
This all comes weeks after it was reported that Brandon is seeking $436,000 in monthly spousal and child support from Clarkson, who was recently granted primary custody of the couple’s two children.
If the ruling, expected to be made next year, turns out in Clarkson’s favor, SMG’s lawsuit could be thrown out entirely, in which case an appeal from the company is likely.
