UC Davis Health is participating in a Phase 3 trial of the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine.

Researchers at Sacramento's UC Davis Medical Center are looking for up to 300 volunteers to participate in this trial of a new vaccine.

They are especially interested in finding Latino, African American, and Native American participants. These communities have been affected the most by the pandemic, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The phase 3 trial will be conducted along with the NIH and the makers of the Novavax vaccine.

The trial will last about 26 months and require 8-10 visits. The first four visits will occur within the first 3 months. Then, one visit is required every 6 months for the rest of the trial.

Participants must be 18 or older, in good health, and agree to not take part in another coronavirus prevention study during the duration of the trial.

It will be a randomized and double-blinded trial, which means participants and researchers will not know who got the actual vaccine or a placebo.

While the current Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are stored at subzero temperatures, the Novavax vaccine can be stored between 36 and 46 degrees Fahrenheit. This will make it easier to store and distribute to the public.
