A fire ignited overnight at Discovery Park in Sacramento on Monday, May 3.

According to KCRA3, the fire started around 11:15 P.M. on Sunday, May 2. Sacramento firefighters worked throughout Monday morning to put out the blaze along the north side of the American River.

Breezy conditions and the dense brush around the area made fighting the fire more challenging. Embers from the fire blew across the river, causing a few trees on the south side of the river on fire.

By 6:00 A.M., the fire had charred around 14 acres and was 90% contained, reported the Sacramento Fire Department.

Fire officials said this is just the start of what's to come in the upcoming fire season.

"Hold on. Really, that's what it's telling us," said Capt. Keith Wade with the Sacramento Fire Department. "Early May, we're already burning. Sacramento Fire Department was tested yesterday, big time. We had multiple, multiple-alarm fires throughout the city. Luckily, our mutual aide system, we had multiple agencies come in to help us, but hold on. We have fire season, we're early on, we got a lot of stuff ahead of us, but Sacramento Fire Department is prepared."

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and no injuries were reported.
