A man is under arrest for stealing an excavator from a construction job site, reports KGPE.

Madera Police say after the man stole the construction excavator, he attempted to hit officers with the bucket attached to the vehicle.

The man is identified as 33-year-old Hugo Berrera. He was driving the stolen excavator westbound on Avenue 14 near Tozer Street on Thursday, May 20.

But he didn't get too far before the police arrived.

When Madera Police confronted him, Berrera refused to exit the vehicle and attempted to fend off the officers.

In the video below, a group of officers is seen trying to remove Berrera from the excavator. Berrera then attempts to hit officers by swinging the bucket attached to the excavator.

The video shows officers ducking in order to not be struck by the vehicle.

KGPE reports that Berrera was eventually removed from the vehicle after officers were able to get the cabin open.

After being surrounded, Berrera was arrested by police and later booked into Madera County Jail.

According to ABC30, Berrera faces multiple felony charges for the incident on Thursday.
