A lifeguard from San Diego is making headlines for proposing to his girlfriend while surfing.

Alex Newsome, 34, was surfing in North Pacific Beach when he asked his girlfriend Meagan Sharp, 29, to marry him.

“While we were out, I saw a jet ski near the pier, and Alex told me to paddle to the outside,” Sharp told FOX5.

It all happened when the jet ski came toward them and she realized the person on it was their friend Josh, who is also a lifeguard.

“We all chatted for a minute,” she said. “And then Alex hopped onto the jet ski and Josh handed him the ring. He got down on one knee and I, of course, said yes.”

The couple got emotional after the special moment.

“Poor bystanders thought I had been rescued,” she said. “We were both just so excited about the whole thing and couldn’t wait to share the moment with friends and family. It was all pretty surreal.”

According to Sharp, Newsome proposed with his great grandmother's ring from the 1920s.
