A 12-year-old Pennsylvania girl experienced significant injuries during a suspected shark attack while visiting Ocean City, Maryland.
WBRE reports Jordan Prushinski, of Plains Township, was left with 42 stitches and 20 cuts after an incident while swimming and boogie boarding with her family during a beach vacation.
The 12-year-old told WBRE she went into knee-deep water and limped out of the water bleeding from her leg.
"I didn't really realize what was going on until I was on the beach and I was bleeding everywhere," Jordan told WBRE. "I was swimming and a wave had just crashed and I was right on the edge of the crash zone, I thought a horseshoe crab had got lifted up and hit against my shins, and I don't like the sea creatures so I rushed out immediately to find blood everywhere, with cuts all over my left leg."
Jordan's mother, Melissa Prushinski, said other beachgoers, including an EMT and a nurse, attempted to give the 12-year-old first aid.
The family has previously spent summer vacations in Ocean City and Jordan said she never thought she'd find herself in a possible shark attack situation.
“I didn’t really realize what was going on until I was on the beach and I was bleeding everywhere,” she said. “I was swimming and a wave had just crashed and I was right on the edge of the crash zone, I thought a horseshoe crab had got lifted up and hit against my shins, and I don’t like the sea creatures so I rushed out immediately to find blood everywhere, with cuts all over my left leg."
WBRE reports the chances of being attacked by a shark are about 1 in 400.
