Utah's gas prices are through the roof right now, and they just keep rising.
KSL reported that the state has the fourth-highest gas prices in the entire country. So why are prices so high? A spokeswoman for AAA says the prices are rising as more and more people are driving after the long pandemic. This is causing the demand for fuel to be much higher.
According to AAA spokeswoman Jeanette McGee, "Robust gasoline demand and more expensive crude oil prices are pushing gas prices higher." AAA says that prices are expected to rise at least another 30 cents by the end of the year.
On Friday, the average price of a gallon of gas in Utah was $3.877. This was the fourth-highest price in the entire country. Just a year ago, that price was around $2.463 per gallon.
Just a few months ago in March, Utah's average gas price was around $3.15 per gallon, so the state is definitely seeing lots of very steep and sudden increases in fuel prices.
Utah's average price is well above the nation's average price of $3.13 per gallon. The a year ago the nation's average price was $2.182 per gallon.
