Here's Why San Diego Is One Of America's Top Street Art Hotspots

According to a recent study, San Diego is one of the top street art hotspots in the nation.
The online gallery Singulart delved into social media data to find every hotspot for street art across the nation and San Diego made the cut. They analyzed common hashtags like "#streetart," #urbanart," and "#graffitiart," as well as search terms like "mural" and "spray paint."
The city rounded out the top 5 in a tie with Austin, Texas.
The top street art hotspots of the U.S. are:

- Portland, Oregon
- San Francisco, California
- Austin, Texas AND San Diego, California
- Washington, D.C.
- Boston, Massachusetts

Chicano Park ‘Colossus’

"San Diego’s Chicano Park is a local treasure that has grown to include 80 murals throughout the 7-acre park that cover the concrete pylons of the Coronado Bay Bridge. The amazing murals began appearing in 1973and after restoration in 2011 – 12, were named a National Historic Landmark. One of the park’s prominent contributors is Mario Torero who painted “Colossus” in 1975. Torero describes the work as the “reawakening of a sleeping giant."
