Several historic and well-known buildings have been lost to fires this year in the Seattle area. Now, a Kent grocery store has been destroyed by a fire started by fireworks, KING 5 says.

Reporters said the two-alarm fire broke out at KK Market, located at 23800 104 Ave. SE, early Tuesday morning (August 24). Puget Sound Fire crews responded to the area around 2 a.m. and learned someone discharged fireworks in the parking lot, sparking the flames.

“The fireworks ignited combustible material on the exterior of the building,” the agency tweeted.

The owners of KK Market told KING 5 that a group of kids was illegally setting off fireworks in the area. They also showed photos of the fire when it was raging earlier.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze with no injuries to the crew. The building, however, was left destroyed. Puget Sound Fire said there was slight smoke damage to the business next door.

No other injuries were reported as of Tuesday at 11:10 a.m.

Earlier this year, a building with over 100 years of history in Tacoma was decimated after a large fire razed through it. Residents believe fireworks sparked the blaze. A church in the same community was left heavily damaged following a fire in late July.
