If you have a TxTag, you may be among the hundreds of Texas drivers who have been overcharged.

The Texas Department of Transportation announced on Friday that it fired IBM, the company hired to manage the state's toll system, after TxTag users had “unnecessary challenges in managing their accounts," the Houston Chronicle reported.

“We take the responsibility of providing a quality and trusted customer experience very seriously, and regret the impact and inconvenience these past many months of lackluster IBM service have had on our toll road users,” said TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams.

IBM started upgrading the TxTag system in November 2020, which led to users seeing multiple charges suddenly appear on their account.

In May, TxDOT said it refunded $11.7 million to drivers who were overcharged, KXAN reported.

TxDOT says its looking for a new vendor, but until then, customers will not be charged late fees. Customers will suspicious charges can contest them on the TxTag website or by calling their customer service. However, one woman warned Fox 7 Austin that it may take an hour or two before someone picks up the phone.
