The Minnesota Vikings are still on track to reunite with their former teammate Everson Griffen.
According to the NFL website, the Vikings signed Griffen on Wednesday (September 1) after he was released on Tuesday (August 31).
It seems that Griffen's was released as part of a strategy when making cuts to the team earlier this week.
The defensive lineman signed with the Vikings just eight days before he was released from the team. Griffen had played on the Vikings for 10 seasons before he decided to leave his contract in 2020. In August of 2020, he signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys and was traded to the Detroit Lions two months later.
During his time with the Vikings, he was named a four-time Pro Bowler and had a total of 74.5 sacks, ranking seventh in franchise history. While with the Cowboys and the Lions, Griffen played 14 games and had 6 sacks and 33 tackles.
The NFL reports that Griffen is expected to play a "depth role" in Minnesota's defense.
The Vikings tweeted Thursday (September 2) confirming Griffen's re-singing. Their tweet said:
