The New England Patriots bounced back from a Week 1 loss with a huge defensive performance at the expense of a rival rookie quarterback.

The Patriots defensive forced Zach Wilson to throw four interceptions -- including three before halftime -- and sacked the No. 2 overall pick four times during a 25-6 rout of the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Sunday (September 19).

The Jets handed out white towels to fans before the game, which was fitting given the fan base seemed to already throw them in on Wilson, booing the rookie quarterback in only the second game of his NFL career.

"They should be booing, right?" Wilson told reporters after the game via ESPN. "We didn't play well on offense. Our defense gave us a good chance to win. We didn't execute, we didn't move the ball well and we didn't score any points. We've got to do a better job there."

The former BYU standout finished Sunday's loss with 210 yards on 19 of 33 passing.

"It's on my shoulders," Wilson said. "I've got to do better."

Patriots rookie Mac Jones, on the other hand, put together a solid performance in his second career start.

The No. 15 overall pick finished Sunday's win with 186 yards on 22 of 30 passing, despite being sacked three times.

"It feels good," Jones said via ESPN. "It's what everyone is saying: It's hard to win in the NFL. You've got to take it for what it's worth. We'll get better. Anyone who watched the game would agree that the offense can play better."
