Multiple people across the country have fallen ill with salmonella and the CDC doesn't know what's causing it.
As of September 17, 125 people in 25 states have fallen ill with salmonella, and 45 of those cases are in Texas alone. No other state has reported more than 13 illnesses, the Houston Chronicle reported.
The CDC says the number of Salmonella infections is increasing.
"We continue to see a significant number of new cases reported each day. It remains important that people report symptoms to their healthcare provider and local health department," CDC Senior Public Affairs Specialist Belsie González told the newspaper.
Local and state health officials are interviewing people about the foods they ate in the week before they got sick, but the CDC has been unable to pin down the source of the salmonella infections.
In 2021, various meats, seafood, spices, and a variety of vegetables have been recalled over salmonella concerns.
Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include fever, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. They can last up to seven days, and most people recover without treatment.
