Neighbors will make or break any living arrangement — and luckily, Illinoisans are among the best.
Whether you’re a renter, a homeowner, or have new neighbors moving in, you know that some may be friendlier and more reliable than others.
That’s why OfferUp used those key traits — plus communicativeness, generosity, honesty and punctuality — to determine the Most Neighborly Cities and States in America in 2021. The mobile marketplace shared its third-annual report just in time for National Good Neighbor Day on September 28. OfferUp says:
“Whether you live in these communities or want to know what the locals are like in anticipation of your next vacation or move, these are the places across the country earning their reputation for the meaningful interactions they’ve had with their neighbors over the past year.
“While our study finds that some cities and states certainly stand out from the rest, the capacity to demonstrate neighborliness is limitless. And we encourage you to practice the six tenets of neighborliness, no matter where your city or state ranks.”
Though it dropped one spot, Illinois ranked No. 4 on the Top 10 most neighborly states this year, OfferUp shows. Here’s the Top 10:
- Washington
- California
- Maryland
- Illinois
- New York
- New Mexico
- Oregon
- Florida
- Alabama
- Colorado
Illinois is also home to some of the most neighborly cities. Here are the two cities that stood out among the rest (and how they rank):
- No. 6: Chicago
- No. 40: Rockford
