Deputies were called out to a Gresham, Oregon home after a man allegedly drove his vehicle into someone's basement, KOIN 6 reports.

The strange incident happened Wednesday evening (October 19) at a house in the SE Bluff Road near Pleasant Home, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. Witnesses told deputies they saw a driver crash into a fence and then into the basement of the home. The homeowner was home at the time of the crash, officials noted. He was unhurt.

After the crash, the suspected driver reportedly fled the scene. Authorities say they found the driver about a mile away, but he was carrying scissors "in a threatening manner." The sheriff's office says deputies were able to convince the man to drop the scissors.

The suspected driver was detained and taken to a hospital for a mental health check, officials say.

Authorities also didn't say if the man would face criminal charges.

Last year, a fire started in a Beaverton home's garage after a street race goes horribly wrong. A different type of crash happened at an Oregon City house, except it was a plane falling into the homeowner's backyard.
