Nicki Minaj Says Being Sober Makes Her Happy, Offers Gentle Advice To Fans

Nicki Minaj has changed a lot in just the past two years alone. The Beam Me Up Scotty lyricist is now a wife and mother to her newborn son. Naturally, after taking on new responsibilities in her life, Minaj has evolved into the type of person who doesn't need to get high to be happy.

On Thursday night, April 21, the "We Go Up" rapper took to Twitter to have a moment of honesty with the Barbz. In a pair of tweets, she revealed that she once needed to be high just to be happy. However, in light of everything that's been going on in her life, Nicki Minaj said that being sober makes her happy now.

"I used to b happy when I was high," she tweeted. "Now I’m happy when I’m sober. No judgement to anyone. Be gentle with yourself. 🎀"

Nicki Minaj is well aware of her own looks whether she's high or not. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, the rapper came into the world with naturally thin eyes, which has become one her signature features. She's even passed them on to her son, who she and fans refer to as Papa Bear. In her following tweet, she acknowledged what fans think about how her eyes look and offered a fair explanation.

"My eyes naturally look like that and ppl always think I’m high when I’m not wearing makeup," she tweeted. "Plus my eyes are naturally gray & I was born in the Caribbean islands of Cuba. The 1st paragraph was 💯 true tho."

Nicki Minaj has a lot to be happy about. After starting the year off by dropping new music with Lil Baby, the "Bussin" rapper continued to link up with other artists like Coi Leray and Fivio Foreign to drop more unique collaborations. After dropping the video for "We Go Up" earlier this week, Minaj mentioned that she has an album on the way.
