If all goes according to his lawyer's plan, there's a chance that Young Thug could finally get some good news.
According to a report The Shade Room published on Wednesday, November 9, Thugger's lawyer Brian Steel filed a motion to dismiss the rapper's entire RICO case due to "sham" and "fake" grand jury subpoenas. In his motion filed last Thursday, November 3, Steel claims the District Attorney's Office of Fulton County issued a fraudulent subpoena to obtain a rental car they asserted was used in crimes the Punk rapper was accused of committing.
“On or about April 8, 2016, the District Attorney’s Office of Fulton County abused its authority by utilizing a sham Grand Jury Subpoena and issuing same to the Hertz Corporation for rental record information relating to Mr. Jeffery Williams,” the motion reads. “This supposed 'Grand Jury Subpoena' was not issued or authorized by any Judge, Clerk of Court or lawfully or properly empaneled Grand Jury.”
The subpoena was sent to both the rapper and Hertz, which forced the rental car company to hand over information about a car that was rented in the rapper's name. The rented car was cited in the 56-count indictment against Thug, Gunna and other YSL members. Steel believes the information and evidence that was collected from the alleged fraudulent subpoenas should be inadmissible in the rapper's upcoming trial.
Steel's motion also requests a hearing to address the allegations against the prosecution. As of press time, a hearing has not been scheduled. Young Thug, Gunna and other YSL members have been locked up since May and have been denied bond several times. They are currently sitting behind bars until their trial in 2023.
