Texas is the second-largest state by area, behind Alaska. That means that some cities take far longer to drive between than driving across most other US states!

Big Country Homepage reported that even some of the shorter trips in Texas could take longer than driving across some other states. For example, it takes less than an hour to cross the entire state of Rhode Island. Driving from Austin to San Antonio takes about twice as long- around one hour and 47 minutes.

Driving across Missouri- from Kansas City to St. Louis- takes three hours and 43 minutes. It takes the same amount of time for someone to drive from Dallas to Houston.

Driving across Tennessee takes just over eight hours and 30 minutes. It takes about 45 minutes longer than that (nine hours and 14 minutes) just to drive from Wichita Falls to McAllen!

Texas is so big that a person could drive across four states- Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia- in less time it would take to drive from El Paso to Houston. The state's area is also so massive that Texas' panhandle town of Dalhart is closer to the state capitals of New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Wyoming than it is to Austin!
