Did you feel the earthquake on Wednesday afternoon? KSAT reported that residents in high-rise buildings near downtown San Antonio felt a shake from an earthquake that originated in West Texas.
The earthquake was a 5.4 magnitude earthquake and occurred about 24 miles WSW of Mentone, according to the USGS website. That's about 350 miles northwest of San Antonio.
According to reports, this was the third-strongest earthquake on record in the Lone Star State. It falls just behind a 6.5 magnitude earthquake that took place in 1931 and a 5.7 magnitude earthquake that happened in 1995.
The earthquake shook things up so much that San Antonio College even canceled classes on Wednesday night. Students evacuated the Moody Center after they felt the shaking.
A spokesperson for the college said that the classes were canceled for the remainder of the day "out of an abundance of caution."
According to the school's risk assessment management team, the buildings on campus will be inspected just to make sure that there was no damage from the shaking.
