Florida Man Faces Charges For Standing Naked In His Doorway

A Florida man is facing charges after his neighbor spotted him standing completely naked in his doorway, per WINK News.

The incident happened on the morning of February 8 in Cape Coral, according to a police report. A neighbor was walking her dog when they noticed a heavy-set man in his 50s, hands on his hips, standing nude in his doorway on a screened porch. They believed the man was deliberately exposing himself and called the cops, authorities said.

The man told officers he was very embarrassed after his neighbor looked at him, claiming he only stood there for 10 seconds. Police confirmed he was charged with a first-degree misdemeanor for violating a Florida statute and exposing his sexual organs.

Michael Sweet said he spoke to the man in question, telling reporters he lives next to him.

“I heard that my neighbor was taking a shower. He forgot [he] had the door open. So he went to go close it. He saw someone like standing at the corner of that street looking straight at his property, like, froze for a second," Sweet explained.

Other neighbors informed police about the man being in revealing clothing before, including a "thong swimsuit."

This situation left WINK News wondering if you can be legally naked inside your home. It also depends on whether there's a pattern of behavior, as well.

“It’s always going to be different if you’re outside of your home. The question is, is when you’re into screened-in area that has a clear view to the street or clear view to your neighbors, and you know that they can see you,” Goldberg told reporters. “I think it could be a hard one to prosecute. But I also think if there’s a history there, I think the state attorney would rather lose a trial with six jurors than lose with the loss of the innocence of a victim down the line.”
