Drake and 21 Savage have apparently worked out their issues with Vogue magazine's publisher after they printed and distributed their own cover during their faux press run for Her Loss.
According to a report TMZ published on Thursday, February 16, both artists have agreed to settle Conde Nast's lawsuit out of court. The outlet did not confirm exactly how much Drake and 21 will pay, however, Vogue's publisher previously demanded $4 million in damages. The "Rich Flex" rappers were hit with legal action from Conde Nast after they featured themselves on a fake Vogue cover, printed and distributed it in several cities to promote their joint album.
“As a creative company, we of course understand our brands may from time to time be referenced in other creative works,” Condé Nast general counsel Will Bowes said about the case per Semafor. “In this instance, however, it was clear to us that Drake and 21 Savage leveraged Vogue’s reputation for their own commercial purposes and, in the process, confused audiences who trust Vogue as the authoritative voice on fashion and culture.”
The faux edition of Vogue featured the Canadian native and the Atlanta-based rhymer photoshopped into a cover with copy that matched a previously released issue of the fashion magazine. They created several replicas that included an altered image of Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour next to Drake next to a fake story. After posting it on to their Instagram timelines, Drake appeared to pass his version of the magazine off as the real deal in his caption when he gave it a release date and saluted Wintour.
"Me and my brother on newsstands tomorrow!!" Drake wrote back in November. "Thanks @voguemagazine and Anna Wintour for the love and support on this historic moment. Her Loss Nov 4th."
Their fraudulent magazine cover kicked off a series of imitation features they received from various outlets while promoting their collaborative LP. Following the Vogue fiasco, they also misled their fans into thinking they'd appeared on A COLORS SHOW, NPR's Tiny Desk and others. So far, neither Drake or 21 have spoken on the legal mess, but it wouldn't be a surprise if they rapped about it in the future.
