The one-year anniversary of the deadly attack at Robb Elementary School is looming, and parents of survivors are hoping to make new memories for their children come May 24. The parents have launched a GoFundMe, called "Robb survivors from room 112 trip to Disneyland," to help send the children who survived the school shooting to Disney.
"We are the parents of the survivors of room 112, our kids have been through so much this last year," the fundraiser's description reads. "They continue to fight for their recovery everyone knows May 24 is coming and they aren’t looking forward for the one-year mark. Our kids came up with a plan to take a trip to get out of Uvalde. They have goals to reach to make it to Disneyland. If you would like to help them we would appreciate it. Anything helps."
The fundraiser, which was posted by Abigale Veloz, has received over $15,000 in donations since it was posted Monday (April 10). The GoFundMe has a listed goal of $50,000. Veloz is the mother of survivor Miah Cerrillo, who is known for covering herself in her classmate's blood and pretending to be dead during the shooting last year.
Senator Roland Gutierrez shared the GoFundMe on Twitter, encouraging his followers to donate to the cause. "They deserve this trip. They deserve these happy memories and a whole lifetime of happiness," he wrote.
This is not my usual post but, these children have been through so much this past year. With all that they endured, the survivors of the #UvaldeShooting deserve a moment to live as kids.
