Chain restaurants offer diners a guaranteed chance to have a delicious meal, but some of the best meals can be found at hidden gems and hole-in-the-wall restaurants that are just waiting to be discovered.

Cheapism looked at reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor as well as rankings from food writers to compile a list of the best hole-in-the-wall diner in each state. According to the site, "There are a ton of great local joints serving cheap, tasty eats, but if you're not careful, you might drive right past them."

So which Wisconsin restaurant was named the best hole-in-the-wall diner in the state?

Franks Diner

Cheapism suggests ordering the "garbage plate," made with eggs mixed with hash browns, green peppers and onions and served alongside toast and your choice of meat or corned beef hash and cheese. Franks Diner is located at 508 58th Street in Kenosha.

Here's what Cheapism had to say:

"'Be nice or leave!' is the motto at this unpretentious spot, housed in a converted rail car. Reviewers say it can get crowded, but it's worth the wait. It won't take you long to get from Franks to the shores of Lake Michigan — about 12 minutes if you walk. There you can explore all the waterfront has to offer, including Harbor Park, the Kenosha Civil War Museum, and Southport Marina. Or head to the popular Rustic Road Brewing Company for a locally crafted ale."
