2 Juveniles Charged In Chiefs Parade Shooting

Two juveniles have been charged in relation to the fatal shooting that took place during the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl LVIII victory parade, officials announced on Friday (February 16).

The two suspects were handed gun-related and resisting arrest charges and remain jailed at a juvenile detention center, the 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Missouri Jackson County Family Court Division confirmed in a statement obtained by NBC News. Officials said more charges are expected as the investigation into the incident progresses.

Three people were detained and multiple firearms were recovered at the scene. Lisa Lopez-Galvan was identified as the lone person killed during the shooting, which also resulted in 22 other injuries, with at least half of the victims reported to be under the age of 16, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said via ABC News. Graves said the shooting appeared to have stemmed from a dispute between several people in an update on Thursday (February 15) via ESPN.

Fire Chief Ross Grundyson confirmed that eight victims were reported to have sustained critical injuries and seven were in serious condition. The Chiefs were celebrating their third Super Bowl victory in the past five years days after defeating the San Francisco 49ers, 25-22, in overtime during Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday (February 11), having previously defeated San Francisco, 31-20, in Super Bowl LIV and repeating as champions following last year's Super Bowl win against the Philadelphia Eagles.
